Fighting off the winter blahs

I mean blues
So I just realized why I’m feeling so crabby; it’s 12/21 and the first day of winter duhhh. For me, possibly the worst day of the year cause it signifies that the freezing cold has just begun and will stalk us for at least 2+ more months to come. So I’m curious, how do you fight off the winter blahs? Obvious answer would be go shopping for something that makes you warm and happy; a delicious smelling candle like Voluspa’s Japonica candle in Baltic Amber...yumm,
a soft cuddly sweater, sparkly new shoes…these fit the happy not warm part but you get the picture, a new bathing suit for you know, the warm vacation you’re going to take and yes…book a vaca! If that's not in your future, get a spray tan and don't stop getting pedicures, it's amazing what these little summer-type routines will do for your mood.

Although it sucks that we’re not in Miami as we usually are this time of the year, there is an end in sight with Mexico in February. By then, I’m sure it will be time to either sell everything and move south or, get out of town. In the meantime, I have another no-brainer of a suggestion; drink lots of hot delicious coffee during the day and spiced hot cider at night. You could reverse that but make sure you don’t get caught by the boss (-:
Don’t give up the exercise routine although with all the yummy treats in the office and at home it’s easy to do but you will regret it come the spring, trust me. Wear warm cozy sweaters with over the knee boots, invest in a pair of cute flannel PJ’s, wear the goofy furry hat you splurged on; trust me, everyone is looking down as they fight off the wind so no worries about being spotted and, don’t forget to light the fire. Here’s a great recipe for spiced hot cider that always makes me happy, hopes it does the trick for you in getting through the winter blahs.

In a saucepan, combine apple cider, brown sugar, 2 cinnamon sticks, allspice and cloves over medium-low heat. Cover the saucepan loosely and bring the mixture slowly to a boil, stirring occasionally.
While the mixture is heating, divide the rum among eight large mugs. Put about 1/2 tbsp. of butter and one cinnamon stick in each mug. Strain the rum-spiced cider into the mugs and serve. Makes 8 happy servings and don’t forget the kiddies sans the rum of course!

Enjoy and happy and warm holidays to all!
