May 8 is International Women's Day

and although I've always thought of it as a Russian holiday -my dad always bought flowers for me, my mom and grandmas- it's an International holiday that's celebrated on March 8 globally.
Maybe I wasn't that far off as it did start as a Socialist political event and blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet bloc.

In some regions, the day lost its political flavor and became simply an occasion for men to...

Opps, sorry...express their love for women in a way that's similar to that of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.

Yes, this is how women in Ukraine dress and yes, this is how the men in Ukraine present them with flowers...how do I know?  I just do!

In there lies the reason for this post...nothing more than a friendly reminder that if you haven't showed the woman in your life the love...tomorrow is the perfect day to do it!

Want more?
On the eve of World War I campaigning for peace, Russian women observed their first International Women's Day.  In 1913 following discussions, International Women's Day was transferred to March 8 and this day has remained the global date for IWD ever since.  Since its birth in the socialist movement, International Women's Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike.

Not only did the United Nations designate 1975 as 'International Women's Year' but, organisations and governments around the world have also observed IWD annually by holding large-scale events that honor women's advancement while diligently reminding of the continued vigilance and action required to ensure that women's equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.

Even Google got involved and in 2011, the 100th anniversary of the event, posted an interactive Google Map inviting users to join tens of thousands people on bridges all over the world to show support for women's causes.
Google went as far as doodling International Women's Day on five previous occasions first in 2005, then consecutively after a four-year break, from 2009 to 2012.
Here is this years!

Just like women, year on year IWD has increased in status and the United States even designates the whole month of March as 'Women's History Month'.  Hmm, I did not know that but will be sure to make a note for all future needs!

So make everyday International Women's Day and do your part to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding!

Google Glass and Fashion?

This Fashionista comme Geek says Yes Please!
What could be better than the fusion of Fashion and Technology?  That's right...Nothing! and Diane von Furstenburg has taken it to the next level!

Google Glass -the eagerly-anticipated, Internet-connected tech-specs being developed by Google -have been all over the place in the past few months: They've gone skydiving; they've been trampolining; they've even strutted their stuff on the catwalk during New York Fashion Week.
Now, we can add one more venture to the Google Glass activity log: cameraman.
Google has released a short film about Diane von Furstenburg -the legendary fashion designer who incorporated sets of Google Glass into her Fashion Week show -which uses only footage recorded on the Glass camera before, during and after the DVF NYFW show.
You can watch the video below (and look out for the Sergey Brin cameo!):
Says Google about the film in the YouTube (natch) description:
Experience the DVF Spring 2013 show at New York Fashion Week through the eyes of the people who made it happen—the stylists, the models and Diane von Furstenberg herself. All the footage you see here was filmed using only Glass, Google's latest technology that lets you capture moments from a unique, new perspective. See what happens when fashion and technology come together like you've never seen before.
Though DVF seems enchanted by Google's Glass, others are more skeptical: A high-profile early review of the next-gen spectacles in the Wall Street Journal by Spencer Ante this past week notably called the futuristic glasses "not ready for the real world yet."
What do you think?

Many gray hairs later

I've gotten to the bottom of it and wanted to share in case you were experiencing the same issue.
Last week, I noticed that I wasn't able to upload photos into Blogger.  This started at almost the same time that I got my new phone, Galaxy SIII so naturally, I thought that it was in the way the phone was syncing to my computer.  So, I tried saving all the pics to a folder and uploading from there and still nothing.
After many days of searching and researching, it turns out that it wasn't my phone but, the browser that I was using.
Evidently Blogger no longer supports the Internet Explorer browser and is wanting everyone to convert to Goggle Chrome.  Firefox works also but IE no more so yesterday I changed over to Chrome and let me tell you...what a difference!

I tried it a few years ago and for some reason recall hating and abandoning it but now, I'm really liking the experience and it was super easy to establish my credentials and bring over all of my favorites.
Funny how with the world at our fingertips, it took this long to get a straight answer and, from another blogger who was experiencing the same problem.
So, paying it forward and hope that I saved you lots of time and aggravation.
As for me, I'm off to coloring my hair...maybe I'll try the color Chrome?
